The AI Advantage for Owners Who Operate: Stop Trying to Do It All. Fix One Thing.

KeynoteMain AuditoriumTara Youngblood

Small-business owners do not need more AI tools. They need more capacity. Dr. Tara Youngblood shows how to find one repeated workflow that slows the business down, match the right kind of AI to it, and test a small, safe improvement. Drawing on her experience building a connected-sleep AI workflow, she shares a practical way to set boundaries, keep human judgment where it matters, and measure whether the work actually improved. Attendees will leave with a five-step plan to choose one friction, name an owner, run a bounded test, define success, and decide what to do next. **Key takeaways for attendees:** **1. Start with the human outcome, not the technology.** AI is useful when it improves a result people actually care about. Tara’s connected-sleep story makes this tangible: the objective was a better night, not more data or a more impressive model. **2. Choose the workflow before the tool.** The best first use case is not “use AI everywhere.” It is one repeated friction that consumes attention: finding information, producing a first draft, capturing scarce expertise, preparing a decision, or following through after a decision. **3. Know what kind of AI you are using.** Rules-based systems follow instructions. Predictive AI finds patterns. Generative AI produces a first version. Agentic AI can take multiple permitted steps. The question is always: which kind is doing which job, with whose oversight? **4. Autonomy needs an envelope.** Before an AI system acts, define one job, approved information sources, limited tools, a stop point, and one accountable human owner. This is the difference between useful support and avoidable operational risk. **5. Treat trust as workflow design.** Privacy, security, accuracy, fairness, employee adoption, and unclear return on investment are practical operating questions. Start with safe data, restricted scope, read-only or draft-only work, and a clear review step. **6. Pilot the smallest useful thing.** Establish a baseline, test one bounded workflow, measure an outcome, and make an explicit decision to expand, hold, redesign, or stop. A good pilot earns trust through evidence rather than promises. **7. Make reclaimed time intentional.** The value of AI is not simply doing more. It is creating capacity to lead, coach, improve the business, recover, and enjoy being an entrepreneur.
